Sampling Methods Lab

TN Algebra 2 Standard A2.S.IC.A.1

1. The Simulation

Select a method below
🎲

Simple Random

Every single dot has an equal chance. Pure luck.

🍰

Stratified

Split into rows, then pick some from every row.

📍

Cluster

Split into columns, then pick whole columns.

📏

Systematic

Pick a starting point, then every 6th dot.

🙋‍♂️

Convenience

Only picking dots in the top corner. High Bias.

🔄

Reset Lab

Clear the board and start over.

2. The Cheat Sheet

🍰 Stratified Sampling

The Logic: "Some from All."

Split population into groups (strata), then pick a few random people from every single group. Use this to ensure fairness.

📍 Cluster Sampling

The Logic: "All from Some."

Split population into groups (clusters), pick a few groups randomly, and survey everyone in those groups. Use this to save time.

📏 Systematic Sampling

The Logic: "Every nth person."

Pick a random starting point, then pick every 5th, 10th, or 100th person. Common in factory quality control.

🚫 Biased Methods

  • Convenience: Asking whoever is close by.
  • Voluntary: Internet polls where people choose to join.
